Two people including a suspected bomber were killed and at least seven wounded in the latest blast blamed on Islamic separatists in insurgency-hit southern Thailand, police and hospital officials said. The blast came after top security officials warned of an upsurge in attacks and police announced the deployment of an extra 2,000 officers in the southernmost provinces by January 1. Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said militants had planted several other bombs nearby but they failed to detonate. The bomb which went off was planted in a motorcycle parked in front of an ATM machine outside a bank in Narathiwat, one of three southern provinces that have borne the brunt of an insurgency in which more than 560 people have been killed this year.
