Victor Jesus Rodriguez and Fredy Giovanni Garcia-Tobar are accused of taking part in a deadly smuggling attempt by a ring that prosecutors say crammed more than 70 illegal immigrants in a stifling tractor-trailer as it crossed Texas.The trailer was eventually abandoned at a truck stop near Victoria, about 100 miles southwest of Houston. Authorities found 17 bodies inside; two other victims died later. The trial of Rodriguez and Garcia-Tobar is the first stemming from the deaths in 2003, although five of the 14 people indicted have pleaded guilty.
