The Cambodian government ordered Monday the seizure of video CDs of gruesome murders and mutilations of people kidnapped in Iraq. “We have not freed ourselves from the culture of violence,” said Minister of Culture Sisowath Panara, whose country suffered through 30 years of war which included the “Killing Field” years of Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge. “Why should we allow these pictures to be displayed in our country? No way,” he told Reuters. The CDs, whose appearance in a largely Buddhist country with only a tiny Muslim minority was a surprise to police, also included the murder in Pakistan of American journalist Daniel Pearl, who was abducted in 2002.
