Peru’s retrial of Shining Path rebel leader Abimael Guzman collapsed on Monday after two of the three judges pulled out, citing previous rulings which could cast doubt on their impartiality. The high-profile case against one of the world’s most brutal rebel masterminds will now have to start again from scratch and Peru’s top judge in terrorism cases said he would personally preside over it.
