Public buildings set on fire

Arsonists razed more than a dozen public buildings in a southeastern Nigerian state during a second day of escalating violence linked to a power struggle within the country’s ruling party, a local government spokesperson said on Friday. Anambra state spokesperson Fred Chukwulobe said hundreds of armed thugs invaded the state capital, Awka, on Thursday and set public buildings ablaze, including the office of the governor, Chris Ngige, and the state legislature.
