The European Union and its member states will contribute more than $100 million to an African Union (AU) force in Sudan’s troubled Darfur region, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said on Saturday.”The EU will contribute to the Darfur mission $100 million and more will be provided by member states covering over half of the required $221 million budget,” he told reporters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where the 53-member AU is headquartered. The United Nations has called the Darfur violence the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
