Colombia’s main rightist militia organization said Thursday it had no involvement in the killing of 14 people last weekend on a farm in the southwestern province of Valle del Cauca. The United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, or AUC, which is currently negotiating peace with the government, rejected any links to the massacre after the Bogota office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights in Colombia called on the paramilitary organization to clarify its position on the matter. The slaughter occurred on a farm in Candelaria, which lies near Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca. According to a communique on the AUC’s Web site, the killings were the work of gunmen employed by drug traffickers in the region. Full Story
