The leader of the largest Protestant political party in Northern Ireland, Ian Paisley, held landmark talks in the Irish capital Dublin. After almost two hours of discussions with Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Paisley said it had been a useful meeting at a time of growing confidence in Northern Ireland’s Protestant unionist community. Paisley, who was accompanied at the talks by Deputy Leader Peter Robinson, said the two men had restated the DUP view that Irish Republican Army (IRA) and other paramilitaries must relinquish their guns and “be out of business for good”.Full Story
