A strike by rebels shut down more than a third of Nepal on Tuesday, including Kathmandu, the latest stoppage in their campaign for a communist republic after last month’s crippling road blockade of the hill-ringed capital. Most buses and taxis stayed off the streets in Kathmandu in response to the two-day strike called by the Maoist rebels in the east of the kingdom to protest the killing of two leaders by government troops early this month.
