Opposition legislator Carlos Miralda Roca died Tuesday of wounds sustained in an attack by unknown assailants in the southern Guatemalan city of Cuilapa. “Ten minutes ago, I learned of the death of deputy Miralda Roca,” UNE party leader Ottoniel Fernandez told reporters. “This crime is contemptible and despicable. We demand that the interior minister clear up this matter, that it be investigated and the motive be found,” Fernandez said. A police official told EFE that a group of unidentified assailants fired assault rifles at the 72-year-old lawmaker Tuesday as he was getting into his vehicle at his home in Cuilapa. Full Story
