Augusto Pinochet’s defense team suffered a double blow Thursday when a Chilean appeals court rejected two separate motions the ex-dictator’s lawyers filed to block Judge Juan Guzman’s interrogation of the retired general in connection with human rights abuses. Pinochet’s attorneys sought to challenge Guzman’s right to exclude experts from the government’s Legal Medical Service from participating in Pinochet’s medical exams and to question the 88-year-old former strongman before those procedures were carried out.
