The Internet, unfortunately, is a terrorist’s friend. Terrorists groups are increasingly and effectively using the Web for their nefarious purposes. Prof. Mark Last of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev’s department of information systems engineering says: “The Internet helps terrorists a great deal, and makes their life easier in many senses – because it is really a very difficult problem to find something suspicious in the sea of traffic. Access to the Internet is relatively easy and affordable worldwide, and it is easy to use while concealing your identity.” The BGU researcher is working on ways to make such communication more difficult by conducting pioneering research on fighting terror in cyberspace.
