Paramilitary leaders demanded an investigation into the killing of one of their top commanders in an ambush, saying Tuesday that his slaying endangered the peace process with the government. But a top police official told The Associated Press that the paramilitary commanders themselves had authorized the killing of Miguel Arroyave. “Everything indicates that the death of Arroyave comes from the very heart of paramilitarism and was executed by paramilitaries,” Col. Oscar Naranjo, the head of the Colombian Judicial Police, said in an interview. “A sector of paramilitarism considered Arroyave a threat, because he was generating excessive violence to gain more power.” Full Story
