Colombia’s paramilitary leaders, embroiled in a cutthroat war against leftist rebels, have become their own worst enemy amid a bloody power struggle, a top police commander said Tuesday. In the latest case, Miguel Arroyave, chief of the paramilitary Centauros Bloc, was slain by opposing leaders of the outlawed right-wing forces, said Col. Oscar Naranjo, head of Colombia’s judicial police. Leaders of a paramilitary umbrella group said in a statement Tuesday that Arroyave “was a victim of a criminal attack” that was “a blow against peace talks” between the government and the outlawed right-wing militias.
