Venezuela, after originally pointing the finger at rightist militiamen, acknowledged Monday that it does not know the political coloring – leftist or rightist – of the Colombian “irregulars” who killed six Venezuelan soldiers and an engineer. “Perhaps next time it will be we who land sure blows against the guerrillas or paramilitaries,” Defense Minister Jorge Garcia said after acknowledging that Caracas has yet to determine who was behind Friday’s attack. The ambush along a river near the Colombian border left an engineer and six Venezuelan soldiers dead, and authorities are still investigating the attack, said Garcia. Full Story
