U.S. voices support, caution on Russia's terrorism war
Bush administration officials suggested Thursday that Russia has the right to take pre-emptive action against imminent terrorist threats, but the nation’s record of excess in its fight against Chechen rebels is stirring concern in some quarters about how far the Russians might go.The statement of support for Russia’s right to act, and the caution attached to it, came one day after Russia’s military chief of staff, Col.-Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky, said his forces would “take all measures to liquidate terrorist bases in any region of the world,” including pre-emptive strikes.Full Story
