French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier arrived in Amman for the second time in 24 hours after a visit to Doha, where he said he hoped the captors of two French newsmen in Iraq would heed widespread calls to free the pair, a diplomatic source said. On Thursday he is due to meet here with a delegation from the French Council for the Muslim Religion (CFCM), the country’s officially recognized Muslim body, which is expected to arrive in Jordan before it travels on to Baghdad in a bid to help obtain the journalists’ release. A Jordanian official said Barnier had not planned meetings with Jordanian officials on this visit. On Tuesday, he met with King Abdullah II and Foreign Minister Marwan Moasher who pledged to give France all possible aid to bring about the release of the two Frenchmen. Full Story
