To protect employees and customers from the threat of bioterrorism, the U.S. Postal Service plans to install a biohazard detection system at the Southeastern Mail and Distribution Center in Tredyffrin Township. Postal service officials Thursday called the system, which has been planned for three years, an essential security improvement. “It really gives us a first alert to any biohazards in the mail,” plant manager James Nemec said. Similar systems have been installed at Philadelphia’s mail distribution center. Officials said the system to be installed next month will provide a continuous testing of the mail moving through the plant and into and out of the region’s mailboxes.
