A judge handed down a guilty verdict late Tuesday against a Mexico City precinct president who was shown on video earlier this year taking cash from a businessman and shoveling it into plastic bags. Carlos Ímaz, of the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, or PRD, was found guilty of using illicit funds for electoral purposes, and sentenced to 3 1/2 years in jail and a fine of 13,095 pesos (US1,140). Ímaz, who headed one of the 16 precincts in this city of 8.5 million, has acknowledged taking the money from a businessman accused of corruption. Full Story
