At least 50 people were arrested Wednesday morning in a nationwide operation by Costa Rican police aimed at clearing roadways blocked since early this week by protesting truckers. Police used tear gas to clear major arteries, such as the highway into Limon, the country’s main Caribbean port, and roads to depots storing fuel, which has begun to grow short at some gas stations. The truckers blocked the roads Monday to protest a vehicle inspection program that has been administered exclusively by the Spanish company Riteve over the past two years. Full Story
