An appellate judge on Monday granted a temporary stay of an extradition order that would send six alleged members of the Basque separatist group ETA to Spain to face terrorism charges. The judge, María del Carmen Hernández, set Wednesday as a deadline to rule definitively on the appeal made by attorneys for the five men and one woman who have been held in a Mexico City prison for more than a year. Judge Hernández also gave President Vicente Fox, Congress, the Foreign Relations Secretariat and the Attorney General’s Office a 24-hour window in which to turn in reports detailing the principles they had considered in granting the extradition order.
