Anger in Italy as Italian fugitive fails to report to French police
A fugitive former left-wing extremist fighting extradition to Italy where he has been convicted for terrorist offenses has failed to make a required regular check-in with Paris police, his lawyer said. Cesare Battisti, 49, did not turn up Saturday, said Irene Terrel. “I don’t know where he is right now,” she said. Battisti, convicted in absentia for murder, risked returning to French detention after being granted provisional freedom here. Prosecutors issued a warrant for the Italian’s return to custody at the request of Justice Minister Dominique Perben.
