Residents of Inhaminga, capital of the central Mozambican district of Cheringoma, experienced moments of panic on Thursday, as a riot police unit, and armed members of the former rebel movement Renamo exchanged gunfire. Traffic in the streets of Inhaminga came to a halt, and shops, offices and public institutions closed their doors. People left their homes and fled into the bush. Patients in the Inhaminga Rural Hospital also left the wards and took refuge elsewhere, while the Renamo men surrounded the town. Full Story
