The detained democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi was absent from a Martyrs’ Day ceremony marking the assassination of her father 57 years ago. Aung San Suu Kyi had also failed to attend during her previous periods of house arrest under Myanmar’s military regime, and shunned the event last year despite receiving an official invitation. The Nobel prize winner has been detained for more than a year. It is the third time she has been put under house arrest by the junta that has run the country since 1962.Full Story
