Australia has defended its decision to join the invasion of Iraq, despite a US Senate report criticising intelligence on the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said the overthrow of the former regime was justified because Iraq had chemical and biological weapons programmes.
