Program Helps Train Residents to Be First Responders

In the event of a disaster such as a terrorist attack or a hurricane, it will be neighbors and friends caring for each other, not trained professionals. As the 9/11 Commission hearings are showing, brave as they are, first-responders can’t be everywhere. If there is a disaster, people who live near Joan Poole, executive director of the Moore County branch of the American Red Cross, will want to thank their good luck. On Wednesday Poole demonstrated how she could pick up another full-grown woman and carry her to safety.
