Antiterrorism authorities in Britain continued to detain without charge eight Muslim men arrested Tuesday morning in a series of raids in and around London, officials said Wednesday. The operation, conducted by 700 police and intelligence officers, netted more than 1,000 pounds of a fertilizer compound that can be used in explosives. On Wednesday, the head of London’s antiterror branch, Peter Clarke, appealed to the British news media to withhold from publication photographs or drawings of the eight men in detention. The request came after one British tabloid, The Evening Standard, published the photos of two Britons of Pakistani origin who are among those being interrogated, the newspaper said.Full Story
