Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo has mobilised the army two days before opposition and rebel politicians plan to hold a peaceful march. The BBC’s Lara Pawson in the commercial capital, Abidjan, says tanks and armed men are visible across the city centre. According to a presidential order, the military will be available to help maintain public order until 15 April. Earlier, Mr Gbagbo banned all public demonstrations, but the opposition says the march will go ahead in Abidjan. Helicopter gunships have been zig-zagging across the skies and traffic has come to a virtual stand still on several of the main routes into town, apparently as a result of military road blocks which coincide with some rather untimely road works, the BBC reporter says.
