A missile landed in the sprawling U.S. compound in central Baghdad late Tuesday, causing little damage, a U.S. spokesman said. Officials were investigating a report that one person was wounded. The projectile, believed to be a rocket, hit near the Al-Rasheed Hotel, said the spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. The missile caused a loud explosion heard as far as 2 miles away at about 9.30 p.m., and immediately sirens were activated in the compound, known as “green zone.” The spokesman said there was an unconfirmed report of one person being injured, but no other significant damage was reported.
