Pakistan nuclear aide arrested in Iranian probe

An aide to Abdul Qadeer Khan, founder of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, has been detained over the possible transfer of nuclear information to Iran, a senior Pakistani official said yesterday. Islam-ul-Haq, who served as principal secretary to Dr Khan, was held on Saturday night. “We are continuing to investigate allegations of links to Iran. Haq has been detained in that connection,” the official said. Last month, three retired nuclear scientists were questioned. Mr Khan is believed to have been questioned last month. There are mounting global concerns over possible links between Pakistan’s nuclear scientists and efforts by countries such as Iran and North Korea to develop nuclear programmes. The investigations were prompted when the International Atomic Energy Agency found suspected links of nuclear co-operation between Pakistan and Iran. Full Story
