Swiss authorities said they have arrested eight foreigners in connection with terrorist activities, notably last year’s suicide bomb attacks in Riyadh that killed 52 people. The suspects, whose nationalities have not been disclosed, were netted in simultaneous police raids on Thursday in five major cantons (regions), including Bern, Zurich and Geneva, the federal prosecutor’s office said. “They are suspected of providing logistical support to a criminal organisation,” it said in a statement. The eight detainees appeared to have different religious backgrounds, said Andrea Sadecky, head of information at the prosecutor’s office. “It would not be right to say all of these people had the same religious or ethnic backgrounds,” she told AFP, declining to be more specific on their nationality.
