National flags flew at half mast as Bangladesh mourned the death of 15 troops killed last week in an air crash in the west African nation of Benin. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who also holds the defence portfolio, was to receive the bodies when a special United Nations flight arrives in Dhaka later Wednesday, officials said Wednesday. The deaths marked Bangladesh’s biggest military loss in a single incident since its independence from Pakistan in 1971. Bangladesh has been a frequent contributor to UN peacekeeping missions. Most of the 15 will be buried at Dhaka’s army graveyard after mass prayers with full military honours, officials said, adding that up to four were to be flown by helicopter to their homes elsewhere in Bangladesh.
