Ivory Coast’s former rebels ended their three-month boycott of government, resuming a reconciliation process in the troubled west African state that had been stalled since January peace accords. Sidiki Konate, spokesman for the rebels now known as the New Forces, told AFP by telephone that from Monday ministers would return to cabinet meetings they had boycotted since September to protest what they called President Laurent Gbagbo’s hoarding of power. New Forces ministers have continued, despite the boycott, to perform their regular administrative duties in the unity government that was created in January to help bring an end to 15 months of civil war. Gbagbo was “very happy” upon hearing the news, Prime Minister Seydou Diarra told AFP after being directly informed by the rebels of their decision. “The world belongs to people who are patient and tolerant,” he added.
