A bomb exploded just west of the Iraqi capital this morning, wounding the driver of a tanker truck under US military escort, a witness said.
It was unclear whether the victim was an American soldier. US military spokesmen in Baghdad said they were checking but did not yet have information on the incident. Wissam Ueid, 30, who lives in the area, said the explosion happened when an American-escorted convoy of tankers passed by. He said one of the trucks caught fire and the driver was injured.
