The United Nations (news – web sites) said Monday it was suspending for a month a disarmament campaign in war-battered Liberia so it can improve a camp for former combatants. Disarmament will stop Dec. 17 and resume Jan. 20, the United Nations said in a statement. The process got off to a rocky start last week when former fighters demanding cash rioted in the capital Monrovia and clashed with peacekeepers struggling to keep the city calm.
