Hackers grab “low hanging fruit”. According to security research firm Mi2g, Europe has overtaken America as the continent most affected by “cyber attacks”. In December the firm reported that in Europe the UK was second only to Germany in the number of attacks perpetrated. The attacks included hacker intrusions, denial-of-service attacks, and virus and worm infections. Mi2g said its survey group in the UK experienced 1,183 attacks in November, but this was under half of the number of attacks against the German survey group, which suffered 2,314. The firm said last month was the first time that Europe had been targeted more often that the US. It suggested that this was because firms in the US, so often the target for attacks, had improved their security tools and procedures. DK Matai, executive chairman at Mi2g, said, “This is a significant shift. North America has learnt from coming under regular digital fire and is now hardened in comparison to Europe.” Full Story
