Turkey’s state security court charged nine people over the attacks on British interests in Istanbul, while London warned further bombings in Turkey might be imminent. After hours of interrogation by the court, the nine suspects were charged with aiding, abetting and belonging to an illegal organisation. Another three suspects were released, Turkish media said. In London, the Foreign Office issued a new alert for Britons in Turkey. “We have information to suggest that further attacks may be imminent in Istanbul and Ankara,” it said. “We urge you to be vigilant … especially in the vicinity of potential terrorist targets.” The warning came as Turkey prepared to celebrate Eid al-Fitr — three days of feasting to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan that are as important to Muslims as Christmas is to Christians.
