US President George W. Bush touched down in London for the first state visit to Britain ever by an American leader, as protesters prepared to take to the streets by the tens of thousands to condemn his war on Iraq. Bush, travelling on Air Force One with his wife Laura arrived at Heathrow airport for the visit taking place against the backdrop of unprecedented security in the British capital. Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, was on hand to greet the Bushes before they boarded the US presidential helicopter — specially imported for the visit — for a quick ride to Buckingham Palace.
