Sounding the alarm for better data-storage security, Yankee Group report authors Jamie Gruener and Matthew Kovar say enterprises should begin exploring options right away — but wait six months to make a purchase, giving vendors time to work out some glitches. Enterprise data-storage systems are becoming more sophisticated, to be sure. But with that sophistication comes an increase in the complexity of security problems, according to a Yankee Group report. Issues stemming from storage systems running across local-area networks or wide-area networks make security “a fragile proposition,” says report co-author Jamie Gruener. “In fact, the storage network is going through the same evolution traditional enterprise networks went through five years ago, when intrusions and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks were commonplace,” says co-author Matthew Kovar.
