The State Department on Friday warned Americans again to avoid traveling to Iraq, saying this time there was a “credible” though unspecified threat to civilian aviation. “The Department of State continues to strongly warn U.S. citizens against travel to Iraq. Remnants of the former Baath regime, transnational terrorists and criminal elements remain active,” the department said in an advisory posted on its World Wide Web site. “There is credible information that terrorists have targeted civilian aviation in Iraq. In addition, there are daily attacks against coalition forces throughout the country,” it added. The advisory provided no further details on the purported aviation threat. Full Story
