THE SWEN worm, which has created so many problems for Telstra BigPond, is not the first virus or worm used to relay spam. Several worms that appeared months ago, such as Klez and Sobig, installed their own SMTP (outgoing) mail servers to propagate themselves. There had been long-standing concern that the Sobig.F variant was designed to harvest machines to relay spam, MailGuard network operations manager Simon Cocking said.
