The secretary general of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Denis Marshall has urged peace during a visit to restive Kashmir’s state assembly, where 40 people were killed in a suicide bombing two years ago. “My message is peace and the message is democracy,” said Marshall when asked to comment on the October 1, 2001, attack in which a suicide bomber blew up an explosives-laden jeep at the gate of Kashmir’s state assembly. Four other gunmen forced their way into the assembly, which was in session, firing in every direction. Police said the attackers were from the hardline Islamic group Jaish-e-Mohammed, which initially said it carried out the attack but later withdrew the claim. Full Story
