Cracking down on an outlawed Islamic group, Egyptian security on Wednesday arrested 14 members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The arrested men were mostly medical doctors, engineers and teachers, said a security official, speaking on condition of anonymity. They were expected to appear before the state security prosecutor later Wednesday and will likely be charged with attempts to revive the activities of Egypt’s largest Islamic group. Last month, seven Brotherhood members — including a former parliament member — were detained on similar charges. The Muslim Brotherhood has been banned since 1954, but is tolerated within limits. Members are allowed to issue statements and back candidates. The Brotherhood advocates the creation of an Islamic state in Egypt, but says it renounced violence three decades ago. Full Story
