President Emile Lahoud called on Russia on Tuesday to play a bigger role alongside the United States and the European Union to get the Middle East peace process back on track and avoid further international military conflicts. After conferring with the new Russian Middle East envoy, Alexander Kalugin, Lahoud called on the United Nations to “respond to international calls and to prevent further military escalations across the world.” He also said the US administration should “start looking for peaceful ways to end the Arab-Israeli conflict.” “Events have shown that violence leads to further violence. Therefore, it is not possible to achieve a solution based on violence, to either the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Iraqi one or the Israeli-Lebanese or Syrian one,” he said. Full Story
