Security forces shot dead at least three armed Maoists in separate incidents across the nation during the festival. The rebels clashed with the security forces at a few places and also tried to abduct a soldier, despite the Maoist leadership’s declared unilateral ceasefire during the festival. Two rebels were killed when an army patrol team clashed with the armed rebels at Khailad village of Kailali district on Monday. According to the army, the security forces also shot dead, on the same day, a Maoist, Dharma Raj Pant, who was also a member of Village People’s Committee of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists). “The armed rebel was killed during the army’s cordon and search operation at Gwale area in Laxmipur village of Salyan district,” an official at the Directorate of Public Relation (DPR) of the Royal Nepalese Army said. The security forces also recovered a few socket bombs and bullets of .303 rifles from the spot. Elsewhere, a patrol team also shot at a girl in her leg early yesterday morning thinking she was a Maoist rebel. Officials said she was conducting some “suspicious activities” at around 5 a.m. at the Kandebas area in Baglung district. Full Story
