Pakistan has offered a $43,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the killers of Islamic hardliner Maulana Azam Tariq. The Sunni militant leader was among five people killed when the vehicle they were travelling in was attacked by gunmen on the outskirts of Islamabad on Monday. One person died and several more were injured when violence against minority Shia Muslims erupted in Islamabad and Tariq’s home town of Jhang after the leader’s funeral on Tuesday. Revealing the reward, Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat also said police had found the gunmen’s abandoned car and had other strong leads. Extra squads of police and paramilitaries were on the streets in major cities on Wednesday guarding mosques and government buildings and preserving an uneasy calm. Full Story
