Yemeni police have detained up to 22 people on suspicion of planning attacks on Western and Yemeni targets, a security source based in the region said on Tuesday. Yemen is battling Islamic militants, including suspected members of Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, blamed for the bombings of a U.S. warship and a French supertanker in Yemeni waters in 2000 and 2002. The source told Reuters a Yemeni man and three Saudis were arrested in mid-September for financing the purchase of weapons and explosives in eastern Marib region, the site of shootouts with Islamic militants and kidnappings of Westerners.
