A strong blast near a mosque rocked a town Thursday in Serbia’s volatile south close to troubled Kosovo province, authorities reported. The hand-grenade explosion hurt no one but caused slight damage. It occurred in the center of Presevo, 300 kilometers (190 miles) south of Belgrade, said Serbian government spokesman Mica Markovic. The town of more than 20,000 persons is populated predominantly by ethnic Albanians but also has a small Serb minority. “This was one in a series of recent provocations by those who don’t want peace here,” Markovic said. Markovic said that besides the explosion, several automatic fire bursts were heard overnight from the direction of a nearby village, Kondzulj. He could not say who fired the weapons or whether there were any injuries. On Saturday, two projectiles fired from a rocket-propelled grenade launcher landed in the center of town, while a third hit a private home nearby, injuring two teenage ethnic Albanians. Full Story
