A massive operation against criminal revolutionaries in Bangladesh’s southwest border districts launched last week has yielded little, but there are fears that innocent civilians could get caught in the crossfire. More than 15,000 police, army, paramilitary, Coast Guard and village defense personnel are taking part in Operation Spider Web which began Saturday, to hunt down 160 wanted criminals belonging to 11 revolutionary groups, who have terrorized the region for decades. The operation had become imperative, with over 5,000 cadres of the rebel groups holding sway here.
