An article in the current issue of The New Yorker asserts that Syrian intelligence officials have helped U.S. law-enforcement agencies thwart many al-Qaeda plots, and even “helped the United States avert a suspected plot against an American target in Ottawa.” Foreign Minister Bill Graham says he is unaware of such a plot. Representatives of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the U.S. embassy in Ottawa say they cannot comment on the report because they never divulge information regarding sensitive intelligence information.
